Fashion Illustration research for Major Project
What is fashion illustration?
It is the way of capturing how clothing looks on the model, creating concepts of garments that will be created in the future and overall visualization of apparel created with the use of various art styles. It is used by the fashion brands for the marketing purposes as well as magazines for their covers and brand's archives. It was a really popular medium in the fashion world before the photography was invented and has partially replaced it. In the opposite to the photography, fashion illustration is meant to represent artist's point of view and interpretation of what they see, which results in many different styles being used by various artist to express their vision in unique for them aesthetic.
Here are some of the most known fashion illustrators from the past:
Paul Iribe (1883-1935)
Carl Erickson (1891-1958)
Rene Grau (1909-2004)
Andy Warhol (1928-1987)
Antonio Lopez (1943-1987)
Lauren Mortimer
Here is couple of illustrations of the artist that I found and I think that my style is somehow similar to hers. She uses a lot of shading and draws characters pretty realistically.
