Class task self portrait

Here is my self portrait done in the time of 15 minutes. It was drawn with the idea that it could be possibly used for cartoon movie character.

When doing my research on other artist's self portraits, I have found the artist Francis Bacon, which work i have found very interesting. This Irish-British painter lived between 1909 and 1992. He was one of the most recognisable artists in 1940s and 1950s. He was taking inspiration from surrealism, film and old masters. He was mostly creating portraits which outstanding feature was that subjects were presented in very violently distorted way. After his death, he was regarded as one of the most important painters of all time. It is also very important to mention that Francis Bacon was a self taught painter.

Biomorphimistic work of Bacon's titled: Three Studies of Figures at the base of a Crucifixion (1944), was the trigger to artist's rise of popularity at the end of the Second World War, when it was exhibited in London.

One of the biggest authorities for Bacon was Diego Velazquez and his influential for Francis 'Portrait of Pope Innocent X'. At the time when painting lost on it's value and attention from the masses, Bacon held his belief and love to the medium and stated that his work 'deserve either the National Gallery or the dustbin, with nothing in between'.

I really like the art of the Francis Bacon, his approach and point of view on the surrounding world. I am hoping to inspire my project by this author's work in the future.
